Age 94
Naomi Elizabeth Mitchell Graybeal, 94, of Shelbyville, died on Monday, the 15th day of September, 2014, at her residence. A native of Elmburg in Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Bertha Black Mitchell, and the widow of Carl Graybeal. A member of the First Christian Church, she was a former choir member and former church secretary, and she was a member of the Jenny Benedict Circle for over fifty years. She retired from the Kentucky Department of Tourism after thirty years of service in state government.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Carla Gay Graybeal Switzer and her husband, Michael, of Lexington, and her stepdaughter, Patsy Graybeal Lusting and her husband, Bert, of Beckley Springs, West Virginia. Naomi will be fondly remembered by her family and a large circle of many friends whom she dearly loved.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A. M., Saturday, the 20th day of September, 2014, at the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, with Reverend Dave Charlton, officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Thursday, and from 5:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Friday, at the First Christian Church, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Christian Church, 1000 Eminence Pike, Shelbyville, Kentucky 40065.

Jo Ann Herndon Tinsley, 66, of Shelbyville, died on Sunday, the 7th day of September, 2014, at her residence. A native of Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late John and Cora Lynn Herndon. She was a member of the Shelby Christian Church and retired after thirty-two years as a computer programmer at the old Devoe and Reynolds paint company in Louisville. Flower gardening, sewing, camping, and most especially, spending time with her granddaughter were her favorite hobbies and pastimes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Danny Tinsley, and her granddaughter, Erin Tinsley.

Her survivors include her husband of forty-six years, Donald R. Tinsley, Sr.; her sons, Donald R. Tinsley, Jr., and Gary L. Tinsley and his wife, Cori, all of Shelbyville; her granddaughter, Emily Tinsley; her brother, Doug Herndon and his wife, Vivian, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; her sister, Vickie Herndon Wright and her husband, Glen, of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P. M., Thursday, 11 September 2014, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Reverend Dave Hamlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Shelby Christian Church.

Lucille Fry Gray, 70, of Bagdad, died on Tuesday, the 2nd day of September, 2014. A native of Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Davis Fry, Sr., and Mary Frances Bellwood Fry, and the widow of James Albert Gray. She was a member of the Christiansburg Baptist Church and a retired teacher, having taught for many years in the Jefferson County public schools. Her memberships also included the Isaac Shelby Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Homemakers, the Shelby County Retired Teachers Association, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and the Shelby County Historical Society. She was a volunteer guide for the Shelbyville Fountain Committee's annual educational program. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepson, David Gray.

Her survivors include her brothers, Paul Davis Fry, Jr., and his wife, Sandi, and Froman L. Fry II, and his wife, Toni, all of Bagdad; her sister, Frances Fry Ramey of Sugar Land, Texas; her stepdaughter, Michele McBrayer, and her husband, Frank, of Waco, Kentucky; and ten nieces and nephews and nineteen great nieces and great nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, the 6th day of September, 2014, at the Christiansburg Baptist Church in Christiansburg, Kentucky, with Reverend Herbert Slaughter, officiating. Private interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M., until the time of service, Saturday, at the Christiansburg Baptist Church, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Christiansburg Baptist Church or to Hosparus.

Roger Stanley Bruner, 58, of Shelbyville, died on Sunday, the 31st day of August, 2014, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. A native of Shelby County, he was the son of the late Stanley D. and Nancy Lee Pullium Bruner. A member of Beechridge Baptist Church, he served on the building committee to build the fellowship hall. He was a twenty-seven year employee of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture where he worked as an equine coordinator. A farmer, he was also formerly employed for twelve years as a truck driver for Al Jensen Dean Milk Distributors.

His survivors include his wife, Martha K. Wilson Bruner; his sons, Justin Bruner and his wife, Ashley, of Shelbyville, and Jacob Bruner of Louisville; his grandchildren, Alexis Bruner, Kayla Bruner, and Mollie Jo Bruner; his brothers, David H. Bruner of Shelbyville, and Mark W. Bruner of Graefenburg; and his sister, Wanda Lee Monarch of Bagdad.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Friday, 5 September 2014, at the Beechridge Baptist Church near Hatton, Kentucky, with Reverend Steve Cowart, Reverend Jim Hitt, and Reverend Chuck Umholtz, officiating. Interment will be in the Bagdad Cemetery in Bagdad, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and from 10:00 A.M., until service time Friday, at the Beechridge Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the College Fund for Alexis Bruner, Kayla Bruner, and Mollie Jo Bruner.

Ellis Owen Douglas, Jr., 67, of Shelbyville, died on Wednesday, the 13th day of August, 2014, at his residence. A native of Oldham County, he was the son of the late Ellis Owen Douglas, Sr., and Edna Corrinne Nowlin Douglas. He was a U. S. Coast Guard veteran of the Vietnam War and a former employee of Johnson Controls and AFL.

His survivors include his brother, Thomas R. Douglas, and his sisters, Virginia Douglas Mitchell and Carol Ann Douglas, all of Shelbyville.

There will be no visitation or services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Ellis Owen Douglas, Jr., memorial fund in care of Hall-Taylor Funeral Home.

Age 89
William "Bill" Henry, Sr., 89, of Finchville, died on Monday, the 11th day of August, 2014, at his residence. A native of Spencer County, he was the son of the late Seymour and Della Mae Tichenor Henry and the widower of Marjorie Brookshire Henry. He was a member of the Finchville Baptist Church. A graduate of Taylorsville High School, he was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Medical Corps. A retired dairy and tobacco farmer, he was engaged in the burley tobacco business for over sixty-one years. He was a USDA AMS government tobacco grader for over thirty years, receiving the USDA's Certificate of Merit for demonstrating exceptional technical proficiency in grading burley. His involvement in the tobacco business included working at both The Star and Growers warehouses for thirty-two years, serving as Shelby County's Director to the Burley Tobacco Growers Association for fifteen years, and serving as a burley tobacco judge at the Kentucky State Fair for fifteen years. For three years, he was also an Honorary Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture under Commissioner Ward E. "Butch" Burnette. University of Kentucky basketball, fishing for catfish at Kentucky Lake, and producing an exceptional vegetable garden were his favorite hobbies and pastimes.

In addition to his parents and wife of sixty-two years, he was preceded in death by his brother, R. D. "Bud" Henry; and his sister, Juanita Cleveland.

His survivors include his son, Billy Henry, and his wife Terry Ann, of Finchville; his daughter, Amye Henry Shouse of Louisville; his brother, James L. Henry of Louisville; his sister, Betty Jane Franklin of Shelbyville; his two grandsons, William Tyler Henry and Trey Shouse; and one stepgrandson, Eric Catlett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, the 15th day of August, 2014, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Reverend Jay Tigner, officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M., until 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Finchville Baptist Church or to the Alzheimers Association.

Alyce Joyce Tipton Ratcliffe, 81, of Shelbyville, died on Wednesday, the 23rd day of July, 2014, at the Hoparus Inpatient Care Center in Lousiville. A native of Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Orville and Virginia Lucille Marlowe Tipton and the widow of Roy Davis Ratcliffe. A member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, she was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a retired bookkeeper. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard "Buddy" Tipton, Jr., and David Tipton; her sister, Myrtle Edwards; and her niece Pamela Tipton.

Her survivors include her sister, Bettie L. Davis of Eminence; her nephews, Stephen Davis of Eminence, Cody Tipton of Shelbyville, and Richie Tipton of Henry County; her nieces, Tracye Floyd Reiland of Cheshire, Connecticut, Gail Renfro of Shelbyville, Judy Tipton of Christiansburg, and Melissa Rayborn of Frankfort.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, the 26th day of July 2014, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Dr. Fred T. Moffatt, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M., until 1:45 P.M., Saturday, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Shelby County Humane Society.
